  • Help needed: Color management `Save to image’ seems not sufficient for matching 8-bit images

    Hi,

We are having trouble understanding the new colour management workflow in 3ds Max 2025.3 and V-Ray 7. We want to save an 8 bpc image directly so that it looks the same as in the VFB. We have created a new test scene and only adjusted the ‘Save to image’ option in the display correction settings of the VFB. However, the images from the VFB differ from the saved images. If we save it from the VFB or V-Ray render settings, it is too dark. And if we save it from 3ds max file output it is completely different.

What additional settings do we need to configure? Appreciate any help!

Go to Rendering > Color Management, scroll down to "Render Output Defaults, and set the Conversion to "No Conversion". You can also do it manually per image by selecting "No Conversion" in the Color Conversion options in the Save Image dialogue (bottom left in your image).
A few threads about this can be found on the forums; here's one.

Thank you for the swift response, and thank goodness it’s so simple. I apologize for not finding the previous forum posts earlier.

      Just to recap:
To achieve identical results from Output and VFB in V-Ray 7 on Max 2025:
      1. Color Management Settings > Render Output Default > Conversion = No Conversion
      2. VFB > Layers > Display Correction > Check Save in Image
